Buyer Map: LINEA System

Prepared for Kathleen Fernandez-Colatrella | LINEA System | October 2026

As of Oct 6, 2026

This page maps the US buyers of clinical trial site identification, feasibility and site selection. It counts the drug and biotech companies that posted a new trial with a US site in the past year, sizes the wider pool of drug, biologic and biotech locations by staff, and lists the roles that usually sign off on site selection. It says nothing about which of them LINEA System already works with.

Companies that posted a new trial with a US site in the past 12 months

1,100

Industry lead sponsors of interventional studies.

Of those, posted one in the last 90 days

340

A dated, public reason to write.

Of those, with a new cancer trial

260

Studies with a US site, past 12 months.

Drug, biologic and biotech research locations with 10 to 249 staff

2,700

The wider pool, active trials or not, 2023.

Sponsors running trials now

Companies named as lead sponsor on an interventional study first posted in the 12 months to Oct 6, 2026, with at least one US site. This is the active buyer count.

A company with trials in several phases appears in each phase row, so the phase rows overlap. Sponsors are counted once whatever their home country, as long as one new study has a US site. Worldwide, about 2,800 companies sponsored a new interventional study in the same 12 months.

Drug, biologic and biotech locations by staff size

The wider pool of US locations, whether or not they posted a trial this year, mid-March 2023.

Industry codes are our closest match to each group. One company with ten sites counts ten times. The biotechnology research row also holds some contract research organizations and research labs that sponsor no trials of their own.

What no public count reaches

One buyer group this page cannot size, said in words rather than shown as a number.

Contract research organizations. No public industry code isolates them. They file inside the biotechnology research code above or inside a broader research code that also holds engineering and physical science labs, and the trial records name sponsors and collaborators without marking which of them is a contract research organization. That group is built by name, firm by firm.

Who signs off

The roles that usually own site identification, feasibility and site selection. Titles vary by company, and at the smallest sponsors one person often holds several of them.

GroupRoles
Larger sponsors, five or more new trials a yearVP or head of clinical operations, director of feasibility or site selection, head of study start-up, clinical program lead
Smaller biotechs, one to four new trials a yearHead of clinical development, VP of clinical operations, clinical program lead
Very small sponsors, under 10 staffThe founder or CEO, the chief medical officer
Contract research organizationsVP or director of feasibility, head of site selection or site start-up, the lead who owns each sponsor account

Three openings

Where the counts point.

Sponsors with a trial just posted.

About 340 companies posted a new trial with a US site in the last 90 days. Each posting is dated and public, so an approach can speak to that one study and its sites rather than to the company in general.

Case studies by therapeutic area.

About 260 companies posted a new cancer trial with a US site in the past year. Your own platform page names oncology, rare disease and CNS, so a case study in each of those areas can go to the sponsors running trials in the same area.

Contract research organizations as partners.

One contract research organization runs studies for many sponsors, so a working relationship with its feasibility lead reaches studies no single sponsor list would. This group is short enough to work by name.

Denominators, definitions and sources

  1. Active sponsors are distinct companies named as the industry lead sponsor of an interventional study first posted to the federal trial registry between Oct 6, 2025 and Oct 6, 2026 with at least one US site. Names are matched after removing legal suffixes, so a company listed under two spellings may count twice. The cancer row uses the registry's own condition search.
  2. Location counts are establishments in the federal annual count of business establishments by industry, 2023, national file, all legal forms. An establishment is one physical location with paid employees. Staff is paid employees at the location in the mid-March 2023 pay period. The file withholds no size cell for these codes.
  3. Industry codes: 325412 pharmaceutical preparation manufacturing; 325414 biological product manufacturing, except diagnostic; 541714 research and development in biotechnology, except nanobiotechnology. The broader research code 541715 is left out of every number because it also holds engineering and physical science labs.
  4. Built from public registries, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten.

The named version of this page, the actual companies inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Ben Beattie, ben@enquirerconsulting.com.
